Advancing Academic Writing Competency Through Structured Guidance
Penerbitan Buku Pena (PBP) successfully conducted its specialised online workshop, Kelas Penyediaan Kertas Projek, on Saturday, 3 June 2024. The half-day virtual class, delivered via Zoom, was designed to equip diploma and undergraduate students with the foundational techniques of preparing a research project paper (Kertas Projek), focusing on Chapter 2 – Literature Review.
This initiative forms part of PBP’s continuous commitment to nurturing research literacy and academic professionalism among early-stage researchers in Malaysia. By providing clear methodological guidance, the class supports students in bridging theoretical understanding with practical academic writing skills.
Focus on Chapter 2: Building Analytical and Conceptual Foundations
The session, facilitated by the PBP Training Team, centred on six major learning scopes designed to strengthen participants’ research and analytical capabilities:
- Organising reading materials systematically.
- Identifying variables relevant to the research topic.
- Understanding applicable theories or models.
- Constructing a conceptual framework.
- Developing sub-sections within Chapter 2.
- Comprehending synthesis processes and techniques for writing Chapter 2.
Throughout the session, participants were guided on how to read and interpret scholarly journal articles effectively to form coherent literature reviews. Practical examples and step-by-step exercises were provided to help students identify research gaps, connect theoretical perspectives, and synthesise information into well-structured academic narratives.
Accessibility and Educational Support
The Kelas Penyediaan Kertas Projek was made accessible at a nominal fee of RM 35, with free participation offered to Kolej Pengajian Tinggi Islam Al-Insaniah (KPTI) students and alumni, reflecting PBP’s dedication to inclusive academic capacity-building. The workshop attracted participants from various fields of study within the social sciences, demonstrating the broad relevance of research literacy and the demand for guided academic writing support at the tertiary level.
Feedback from attendees highlighted the clarity of instruction, practical approach, and relevance of the examples provided. Many noted that the class successfully demystified the process of writing Chapter 2, transforming what is often a challenging academic requirement into an achievable and systematic task.
PBP’s Role in Academic Capacity-Building
Through initiatives such as this, Penerbitan Buku Pena continues to uphold its mission to support students, researchers, and educators in enhancing research and writing competencies. The Kelas Penyediaan Kertas Projek complements PBP’s wider educational agenda of promoting excellence in academic communication and fostering a generation of students capable of producing research work that meets both institutional and publication standards.
By combining structured content, practical examples, and personalised guidance, PBP reaffirms its position as a trusted academic partner for developing research skills and scholarly writing proficiency in Malaysia’s higher-education ecosystem.
