A Milestone for Academic Publishing and Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship

Penerbitan Buku Pena (PBP) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uniti Asia Group (UAG) on 28 August 2025, marking a significant step towards national and regional collaboration in academic publishing, entrepreneurship, and knowledge dissemination.

The MoU establishes a joint commitment between PBP — an emerging hybrid publishing company recognised for its Tesis Jadi Buku™ initiative — and UAG, a diversified Malaysian conglomerate operating under subsidiaries including Uniti Office Sdn. Bhd., UNITI Madani Entrepreneurship Centre (UMEC), and Yayasan Uniti (YU). PBP has been a registered member of UMEC since 6 August 2025, further solidifying the foundation for this strategic alliance.

Expanding the Tesis Jadi Buku™ Programme

Under this partnership, both organisations will jointly implement the Tesis Jadi Buku™ Workshop Programme, designed to equip postgraduate students, researchers, and early-career academics with editorial and publishing literacy. The collaboration enables nationwide expansion of the programme through physical and online workshops, integrating PBP’s editorial expertise with UAG’s institutional network and infrastructure.

PBP, led by Dr. Nabilaa Mohamed, will provide official modules, facilitators, and intellectual property rights management, ensuring that all materials meet academic-publishing standards consistent with Malaysia’s Reading Nation 2030 mission. UAG, represented by Hj. Jamal Mohd Amin, will facilitate physical venues, logistics, and institutional linkages through its ecosystem of universities and training centres.

Objectives of the Collaboration

The MoU outlines three principal objectives:

  1. Academic and Professional Capacity Building: advancing skills in Tesis Jadi Buku™ transformation and research communication.
  2. Strengthening the Interface Between Publishing and Entrepreneurship: creating opportunities for sustainable, knowledge-based business models.
  3. Commercialisation of Research and Innovation: translating academic outcomes into accessible and reader-friendly scholarly outputs.

This agreement also introduces a joint profit-sharing framework and safeguards on intellectual property, reaffirming PBP’s position as the sole rights holder for official modules and training materials developed under the programme.

Towards a Shared Vision

This partnership represents a strategic alignment between the publishing and education sectors, aimed at transforming how Malaysian and ASEAN research communities engage with public knowledge. Both parties share a commitment to:

  1. Academic-compliant publishing
  2. Research empowerment
  3. Building an ecosystem for knowledge dissemination

By combining the editorial excellence of Penerbitan Buku Pena with the entrepreneurial strength of Uniti Asia Group, this collaboration positions Malaysia as a hub for scholarly transformation and innovation-driven education.
