Sharing Practical Insights with ITBM’s Publishing Team
Sharing practical insights with the publishing team at Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia / Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (ITBM) today, 10 June 2025, 9 AM–5 PM, during the physical workshop titled “Step-by-Step Guide: Transforming a Thesis into a Book / Step by Step Menukarkan Tesis Kepada Buku.”
May this collective effort from PBP Trainer (Dr. Nabilaa Mohamed) and ITBM’s Publishing Department, represented by Mr. Khairulnizam Mohamad Yunis (Head of Publishing Department), Madam Jurina Pieei (Chief Editor, Publishing Deparment), and Mr. Wan Sufian Wan Talib (Head of Translation Department), contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s national mission of becoming a Reading Nation by 2030.
“Thank you to Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia (ITBM), Kuala Lumpur, for giving Penerbitan Buku Pena (PBP) the opportunity to share knowledge and advance editorial practice together.” – Dr. Nabilaa Mohamed, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, PBP
Advancing Editorial Professionalism through the Tesis Jadi Buku™ Method
In alignment with Malaysia’s publishing development goals, ITBM appointed Dr. Nabilaa Mohamed to lead a full-day physical internal editorial training featuring the proprietary Tesis Jadi Buku™ framework. The workshop focused on practical transformation strategies to adapt postgraduate theses into accessible, high-impact publications.
Participants engaged in a series of guided activities covering:
- Reframing academic arguments into readable narratives.
- Restructuring thesis chapters to fit book-market logic.
- Applying quality assurance benchmarks.
- Clarifying intellectual property rights and institutional permissions.
Dr. Nabilaa emphasised that thesis transformation is not a mechanical rewrite but a form of intellectual translation that converts research created for evaluation into knowledge designed for impact.
Client Feedback and Impact (Google Form Results)
Based on five official responses from ITBM’s editorial staff, the feedback results were highly encouraging:
- Content–role fit: 4.8 / 5 (100% rated 4–5; 80% rated 5)
- Module quality: 4.0 / 5 (100% rated 4–5)
- Hands-on activities: 3.8 / 5 (80% rated 4–5)
- Overall satisfaction: 3.8 / 5 average across all rated items
Respondents consistently highlighted the relevance of the Tesis Jadi Buku™ module to ITBM’s editorial functions and commended the clarity and structure of PBP’s method. The feedback confirmed the workshop’s value as a professional development initiative for Malaysia’s editorial workforce.
What ITBM Editors Want Next (Feedback Themes)
Analysis of the open-ended feedback identified three key suggestions for future improvement:
- More case studies and examples: “Lebih menunjukkan banyak contoh dari tesis luar.”
- Richer hands-on exercises: “Menambah bahan supaya dapat diterapkan secara praktikal.”
- Extended time for in-depth discussion: Requests for a follow-up advanced session focusing on complex manuscript transformation.
To address these points, PBP plans to introduce an interactive “Live Editorial Lab” in future sessions. The module will allow editors to collaboratively deconstruct a thesis chapter and rebuild it into a book chapter step by step, combining academic rigour with engaging presentation.
Strengthening Malaysia’s Editorial Workforce
This professional physical workshop reflects ITBM’s commitment to continuous editorial development and PBP’s dedication to capacity-building for Malaysia’s publishing ecosystem. It advanced the participants’ skills in handling thesis-based manuscripts with precision, creativity, and ethical awareness, directly supporting the national Reading Nation 2030 agenda.
Toward Sustainable Academic Publishing
Through the Tesis Jadi Buku™ platform, Penerbitan Buku Pena (PBP) continues to lead the way in professionalising academic-to-book conversion in Malaysia. The initiative empowers universities, government agencies, and publishers to transform scholarly research into accessible and meaningful works that contribute to national intellectual growth.
